The storyகதை
When Ravana carried Sita away in his flying chariot, a great eagle named Jatayu tried to stop him. Jatayu was old, but he was brave.இராவணன் சீதையைத் தன் வானூர்தியில் கொண்டு சென்றபோது, ஜடாயு என்ற பெரிய கழுகு அவனைத் தடுக்க முயன்றது. ஜடாயு முதியது; ஆனாலும் துணிச்சல் மிக்கது.
Rama and Lakshmana, searching for Sita, found the eagle. Jatayu told them what he had seen and which way Ravana had gone.சீதையைத் தேடிய இராமனும் இலக்குவனும் கழுகைக் கண்டனர். தான் கண்டதையும் இராவணன் சென்ற திசையையும் ஜடாயு சொன்னது.
Rama was as moved as if he had lost a family member, and he honoured the brave bird. The pool where Jatayu fell is called the Jatayu Tirtham. Rama says goodbye to a friend
When Ravana carried Sita off in his flying chariot, a great eagle named Jatayu tried to stop him. Jatayu was old but he fought bravely, until Ravana cut his wings and he fell into the forest. Rama and Lakshmana, searching for Sita, found him dying. The eagle told them what he had seen and which way Ravana had gone, and then he passed away. Rama was moved as if he had lost a family member, and he performed the last rites for the brave bird. The water where Jatayu fell is called the Jatayu Tirtham. In the temple, Rama is shown as Vijayaraghava, with four hands, holding the bird. Sridevi and Bhudevi are shown with their heads bowed to the earth, as if in sorrow, to show the grief of the moment.

Historyவரலாறு
The temple is believed to have been built by the Pandya kings in the 13th century, as the stone inscriptions show, with later contributions from the Cholas and the Thanjavur Nayaks. Three Chola inscriptions survive. Thiruputkuzhi is believed to be the birthplace of Yadava Prakasa, the teacher of Ramanuja, and also of Pinpazhagiya Perumal Jeeyar. Vedanta Desika composed hymns in praise of the deity. The temple follows the Pancharatra Agama and the hereditary priests belong to the Porakathi Bhattar sect.

Architectureகட்டிடக்கலை
The central shrine houses the image of Vijayaraghava with four hands, in a posture holding the bird Jatayu and performing the last rites. Sridevi and Bhudevi are shown with their heads facing the earth. There is a separate shrine for Maragathavalli Thayar and one for Ramanuja. The temple has a five-tiered gateway tower and a sacred pool called Jatayu Tirtham.
