Only a festival image of Jagadeesa, with four arms and facing east, stands in a hall in the second precinct of the great temple. The tank is called Akrura Tirtham. Those who come say that the empty seat is itself a teaching: the lord is not limited to a single place and may be seen in an image, a story or a quiet corner of the heart.

Historyவரலாறு
According to the historian Nagaswamy, based on inscriptions and the location, the Ulagalantha Perumal temple is the oldest temple in Kanchipuram. The earliest inscription dates from 846 during the rule of Nandivarman III, and the temple was further developed by Rajendra Chola I (1012 to 1044). The inscriptions refer to the main deity by names such as Tiru Uragathu Ninru-arulina Paramaswamin.

Architectureகட்டிடக்கலை
The whole complex covers about 60,000 square feet and has a three-tiered gateway tower with seven kalasas. The four Divya Desams inside are Tirukkaravanam, Tirukkarakam, Tiruoorakam and Tiruneerakam. Tiruneerakam has no presiding deity, only a festival image of Jagadeesvara with four arms, in a hall in the second enclosure. Its water body is the Akrura Tirtham and its vimana is the Jagadishvara Vimana.
