Brahma was deep in prayer in Kanchipuram when the goddess Saraswati, who felt left out, sent darkness over the place. A light in the dark
While Brahma was in the middle of his deep prayer in Kanchipuram, the goddess Saraswati, who felt left out, sent a blanket of darkness over the place. In that thick dark, no one could see the sacrificial fire or even their own hands. Brahma did not lose heart. And then a bright light spread through the darkness, like the glow of a single lamp in a black room. The darkness melted away. The light was Vishnu himself, who had come to protect the prayer. He is known here as Deepaprakasa Perumal, the lord who is the light of the lamp, and in Tamil as Vilakkoli Perumal. Many later devotees found this story a gentle reminder that the dark is never as big as it feels, and a small light can change a whole room.
இருளில் ஒரு விளக்கு
காஞ்சிபுரத்தில் பிரம்மா ஆழ்ந்த வேண்டுதலில் இருந்தபோது, தான் புறக்கணிக்கப்பட்டதாக உணர்ந்த சரஸ்வதி தேவி அவ்விடத்தின் மேல் இருளைப் போர்வைபோல் பரப்பினாள். அந்த அடர் இருளில் வேள்வித் தீயையோ தம் கைகளையோகூட யாராலும் காண இயலவில்லை. பிரம்மா மனம் தளரவில்லை. அப்போது இருண்ட அறையில் ஒற்றை விளக்கின் ஒளிபோல பிரகாசமான ஒளி இருளுக்குள் பரவியது. இருள் கரைந்துபோனது. அந்த ஒளி திருமாலே; வேண்டுதலைக் காக்க வந்தவர். இங்கு அவர் விளக்கின் ஒளியான இறைவன் என்னும் பொருளில் தீபப்பிரகாசப் பெருமாள் என்றும், தமிழில் விளக்கொளிப் பெருமாள் என்றும் அழைக்கப்படுகிறார். இருள் நாம் நினைக்குமளவு பெரிதல்ல என்பதையும், சிறு ஒளி ஓர் அறையையே மாற்றும் என்பதையும் இக்கதை பின்வந்த பல அடியார்களுக்கு மென்மையாக நினைவூட்டியது.
Historyவரலாறு
The temple is the birthplace of the great teacher Vedanta Desika (1268 to 1369), who was an ardent devotee of the lord here and praised him in 59 verses of his Saranagathi Deepika. The icon of Desika in the temple is believed to have been installed by his son, Nayinar Varadachariar. A temple to Hayagriva, whom Desika worshipped, stands close by. The temple is one of the 14 Divya Desams in Kanchipuram.
இக்கோயில் பெரும் ஆசாரியர் வேதாந்த தேசிகரின் (1268–1369) பிறப்பிடம்; அவர் இங்குள்ள இறைவனின் தீவிர அடியார், தம் சரணாகதி தீபிகையில் 59 பாடல்களால் அவரைப் போற்றினார். கோயிலிலுள்ள தேசிகரின் திருமேனியை அவரது மகன் நயினார் வரதாசாரியார் நிறுவியதாக நம்பப்படுகிறது. தேசிகர் வழிபட்ட ஹயக்ரீவருக்கான கோயில் அருகில் உள்ளது. இக்கோயில் காஞ்சிபுரத்தின் 14 திவ்ய தேசங்களில் ஒன்று.
Architectureகட்டிடக்கலை
The temple is in the Vishnu Kanchi area, with a three-tiered gateway tower and a rectangular plan within brick walls, in two enclosures. The presiding deity sits in the central shrine. There are shrines for Lakshmi, Hayagriva, Andal, Vedanta Desika and the Azhwars. The temple tank, the Saraswati Tirtham, is outside the premises. The south-facing shrine of Vedanta Desika shows him with a hand raised in the gesture of protection. The temple follows the Vaikhanasa Agama.
