The messenger who showed his true form
When war between the Pandavas and the Kauravas seemed near, Krishna went to the Kaurava court as a messenger, hoping to make peace. Duryodhana, who did not want peace, dug a deep pit in the hall and covered it with a fine carpet and a jewelled seat. He hid wrestlers in it, planning to trap Krishna. But Krishna knew everything. He revealed his cosmic form, the Vishvarupa, to the whole court. The courtiers and even the blind king Dhritarashtra were granted the vision. When Krishna offered the old king a wish, he asked to see this great form with his own eyes, and it was granted. The huge, seated image at this temple, about 25 feet tall, is a reminder of that moment when a messenger became the whole universe.

Historyவரலாறு
The temple is considered one of the three oldest Vishnu temples in Kanchipuram, with Ulagalantha Perumal and Yathothkari Perumal. It is believed to have been built in the Pallava period and has inscriptions from the Cholas, including a record from the fifth year of Kulothunga Chola I about a flower garden for the temple. Tradition says that the saint Emperumanar was born here, that he debated with Ramanuja for 18 days and finally became his disciple, and there is a shrine to him in the temple.

The temple faces east and has a four-tiered gateway tower and a single enclosure with a rectangular plan. The Maha Mandapa is believed to have been built by the Cholas, and the adjoining hall during the Vijayanagara period. The central image of Pandava Thoothar is about 7.6 metres (25 feet) tall, which is said to be unique among historical images of Krishna.
