In English

Lines 1–4: The poet pictures the Lord's feet like red lotuses scented with sandalwood, with anklets ringing in many tones, a golden waist-cord and fine cloth shining at his waist. Lines 5–12: The poem describes Ganesha's form: a great belly, a heavy tusk, an elephant's face, red vermilion, five hands holding the goad and the noose, a dark blue body that dwells in the heart, a hanging mouth, eight arms, three eyes, the marks of flowing rut, two ears, a shining golden crown, the sacred thread and a bright chest. Lines 13–15: He is addressed as the wondrous young elephant of the wish-granting tree, standing in the state beyond words that is true knowledge, who enjoys three kinds of fruit and rides on a mouse. Lines 16–20: The poet asks him to come now to take him in, to appear like a mother, to cut through the deep confusion of being born again and again, to make the five-letter mantra clear, and to enter his heart. Lines 21–26: Taking the form of a guru, the Lord places his feet in this world, shows with joy what is true, removes the harsh results of past actions with his tusk, and pours teaching into the poet's ear along with a clear and endless knowledge. Lines 27–34: The poet describes being taught how to hold the five senses in check, how the faculties grow still, how the two kinds of past action and the darkness are removed, how the confusion of the three impurities is cut, and how the nine gateways of the body and the doors of the senses are closed by a mantra. Lines 35–44: He is shown the six centres of the body, the left and right channels, the central channel, the coiled energy at the base, the silent mantra carried on the breath, and how to wake the fire rising from the base of the spine. Lines 45–54: He is shown the state of nectar, the movement of sun and moon, the wheels of energy in the body with their parts, the gross and subtle forms, and the vision of the eight principles, and is led to the gate at the crown of the head and to liberation. Lines 55–62: The poet asks to be made to know himself, to have the root of earlier actions removed, to reach a stillness in which speech and mind are quiet, to have his thought made clear, to be given boundless joy, and to have sorrow taken away and the path of grace shown. Lines 63–66: The Lord shows the supreme Shiva within sound and the Shiva lingam within the mind, and shows the One who is smaller than the smallest and beyond all that lies beyond, like the sweetness packed inside a sugarcane joint. Lines 67–72: He keeps the devotee's dress and sacred ash bright, joins him to the company of true devotees, makes known the rare meaning of the five letters and the state of the heart, and gives the state of truth. The poem ends with a bow to the fragrant feet of the wise Vinayaka who ruled the poet.
