In the Kali Yuga, a prince named Sangabalan wanted to marry Kumudavalli, who loved Vishnu. The robber who became a poet
In the Kali Yuga a young prince named Sangabalan wished to marry Kumudavalli, a girl who loved Vishnu with all her heart. She had one condition: that he feed a thousand devotees of the lord. He began to do it gladly, but as the weeks went by, his money ran out. In his desperation, he began to rob travellers on the road to keep the feasts going. One night, he saw a wedding party on the road and tried to rob that too. But the bridegroom was Vishnu, and the bride was Lakshmi, in disguise. Vishnu leaned close and whispered the sacred eight-syllable mantra in the robber's ear. At that moment, Sangabalan was changed. He became the poet Thirumangai Azhwar, who wrote more verses in praise of the lord than any other poet, and who walked from temple to temple singing about them. It is said that the lord forgives and transforms in a single moment.

Historyவரலாறு
The exact history of the temples cannot be ascertained. They are believed to have been built by the Cholas, with later additions by the Vijayanagara and Thanjavur Nayak kings, who built pillared halls and major shrines in the 16th century. The hymns of the Azhwars refer to both temples, so they are counted together as one Divya Desam. Thirunagari is believed to be the birthplace of Thirumangai Azhwar. He is said to have worshipped five Narasimhas, including the one at Thiruvali.

Architectureகட்டிடக்கலை
At Thiruvali, the Azhagiyasingar temple covers about half an acre inside a rectangular granite wall. The Narasimha image is carved of granite and shown seated with Lakshmi on his right lap, which is unusual, since Lakshmi is usually shown on the left in Narasimha temples. A south-facing shrine of Thirumangai Azhwar stands outside the walls. At Thirunagari, the Vedarajan temple covers about two acres and has a seven-tiered gateway tower about 38 metres tall. The granite Vedarajan sits in the sanctum, and the festival image is Kalyana Ranganathar. The temple tank is on a street in line with the eastern gateway.
