A village tale about a granted wish
This is a village tale told to children, inspired by the name Varadaraja, which means the king who grants wishes. A young boy once walked a long way to the temple with his grandmother, to ask for a gift. On the way, he saw a small girl crying because her pot of water had broken. He gave her his own pot and walked on, a little puzzled to have no gift to carry home. At the temple he forgot to ask for anything at all. He only stood, looking at the lord. As the boy left, his grandmother smiled and told him he had already received the gift. A tale like this is told to remind us that the best wishes are often granted in a way we do not expect.
நிறைவேறிய வேண்டுதலின் ஊர்க்கதை

Historyவரலாறு
The temple is part of the group of eleven in Thirunangur. According to tradition, the eleven Rudras and the king of the gods, Indra, worshipped Varadarajar here. The temple is praised by Periyazhwar, Thirumazhisai Azhwar and Thirumangai Azhwar and is mentioned in the 108 Tirupathi Anthathi.

The temple has a single enclosure and a single shrine. Varadharajaperumal stands in the sanctum facing east, with the images of his consort Sridevi, also called Thirumaamangal Nachiyar, and Bhudevi in the same shrine. The festival images are housed in their respective sanctums, and figures of the vehicles that carry the deities are kept in a hall.
