Where the gods gathered
The word 'thogai' in the name of this place means a gathering, and the village tells a story about it. When Shiva's wild dance frightened the gods, they came together in this place and cried out to Vishnu to calm the world. They had no weapon and no plan, only the knowledge that the lord would hear them. He did. He came in the form we now call Devanayakan, the leader of the gods, and the anger of the dance melted away. A great calm fell on the land. Today the lord stands in the sanctum with his consort Kadalmagal Nachiyar, the daughter of the sea, and the village remembers that it is good to ask for help together when the world feels too big to face alone.

Historyவரலாறு
The legend of this temple is part of the story shared by all eleven Thirunangur temples. It is praised by Periyazhwar, Thirumazhisai Azhwar and Thirumangai Azhwar, and is mentioned in the 108 Tirupathi Anthathi by Divya Kavi Pillai Perumal Aiyangar. It is believed that Thirumangai Azhwar visits the temple every year for the festival of the eleven deities. Local belief says that fresh winds that swirl through the paddy fields before the festival day promise a good harvest.

Architectureகட்டிடக்கலை
The temple faces west and has a three-tiered gateway tower, with all the shrines enclosed in concentric rectangular walls. The presiding deity, Deivanayakan, stands facing east. His consort, Kadalmagal Nachiyar, and the festival images of Madhava Perumal and Madhava Nayaki are all in the same shrine. The Garuda Mandapa is near the flagstaff in line with the sanctum, and the temple tank is in front.
