The story
The dancer on the pots
In the village of Thirunangur, among green rice fields, there is a temple where Krishna sits with his feet upon a pot. It reminds visitors of the story that Krishna, as a boy, danced on a stack of pots with the cowherd children watching and laughing. Thirumangai Azhwar loved this image so much that he called the lord 'Kudamaadu Koothan', which means the one who dances on pots. He sang about it with a smile in his words. The sage Uthankar is said to have worshipped here as well. If you stand in the quiet hall and look at the lord, you can almost hear the children's laughter and the soft clatter of the pots. It is a joyful, playful picture of God, and a good one to carry home.
History
Like the other ten temples of Thirunangur, it is linked to the legend of Shiva's furious dance and Vishnu's appearance in eleven forms. The temple is praised by Periyazhwar, Thirumazhisai Azhwar and Thirumangai Azhwar. Sage Uthankar is believed to have worshipped here, and the temple is mentioned in the 108 Tirupathi Anthathi.
