Long ago, Shiva was so upset that he began a wild dance, and with each swirl of his hair, a new form of Shiva appeared. The dance that shook the world
Long ago, in a time of great grief and fury, Shiva began to dance after he lost his beloved wife. Each time his matted hair touched the ground, eleven fresh forms of Shiva sprang up. The gods grew frightened that this wild dance would end the whole creation, and they hurried to Vishnu. Vishnu came to the place now called Thirunangur. When Shiva saw him, his anger cooled. Shiva asked that Vishnu should stay there in eleven forms, just as he himself had appeared in eleven. Vishnu agreed. That is why this one small village has eleven Divya Desams, and why Thirukkavalampadi, with its Gopalakrishna and his two consorts, is one of the eleven. The story says that kindness and company can calm even the fiercest feelings.
உலகை அதிரச் செய்த நடனம்

Historyவரலாறு
The legend of all eleven Thirunangur temples is closely linked. The temple is praised by Periyazhwar, Thirumazhisai Azhwar and Thirumangai Azhwar, and it is mentioned in the 108 Tirupathi Anthathi by Divya Kavi Pillai Perumal Aiyangar in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is said that Thirumangai Azhwar visits the eleven temples every year at their annual festival.

Architectureகட்டிடக்கலை
The temple is small, with a single shrine under a vimana and a three-tiered gateway tower. The granite image of Gopalakrishna stands with his consorts Rukmini and Satyabhama on either side. A separate shrine honours the goddess, known as Madavaragal Mangai and Sengamala Nachiyar. The shrine of Garuda stands outside the gopuram, in line with the main shrine. The temple is surrounded by paddy fields, about 10 km from Sirkazhi.
