A teacher named Sukracharya once tried to stop a king from giving a gift. He made himself tiny like an insect and blocked the water jug.சுக்ராச்சாரியார் என்ற குரு ஒரு மன்னன் தானம் செய்வதைத் தடுக்க முயன்றார். பூச்சி போல் சிறியவராகி நீர்க்குவளையை அடைத்தார்.

The teacher felt sorry and prayed on the bank of the Kaveri. Here his sight returned. The teacher who lost his eye
When the demon king Mahabali was about to give a gift of land to Vishnu, who had come as a small boy, his teacher Sukracharya tried to stop it. He shrank himself into an insect and blocked the spout of the water jug that was used for the ceremony. Vishnu saw this, and with a blade of grass he touched the insect's eye, and Sukracharya lost his sight in that eye. Ashamed and sorry, the teacher went to a quiet place on the bank of the Kaveri and prayed to be forgiven. Here, say the villagers, his sight was returned. The light he found, they tell, still burns in the temple as a lamp called the Nethra Deepam, the lamp of the eye. It is a reminder that even a mistaken person can start again.

Historyவரலாறு
The village has had different names in different ages, according to tradition: Brahma Putram, Parasaram, Sainthiranagaram and Bhargavapuram. The sage Parasara is said to have worshipped here. Tradition also says that Maya and Vishvakarma, the celestial architects, quarrelled over whose work was better, and that Maya built this temple as a copy of Vaikuntha, where Vishnu appeared as Sringara Sundaran, the beautiful lord.

The temple has a three-tiered gateway tower and is enclosed within brick walls. The central shrine is built of granite, while all the others are of brick. Kolavalvil Ramar is shown reclining, and his consort Maragathavalli has her own shrine.
