The storyகதை
A sage named Medhavi found a baby girl sitting under a vanji tree. She was the goddess Niladevi, and he raised her as his own daughter, calling her Vanjulavalli.மேதாவி முனிவர் வஞ்சி மரத்தடியில் ஒரு பெண் குழந்தையைக் கண்டார். அவள் நீளாதேவி; அவளை 'வஞ்சுளவல்லி' என்று பெயரிட்டுத் தன் மகளாக வளர்த்தார்.

The girl under the vanji tree
The sage Medhavi was bathing in the river when he found a sacred image tangled with another, and a voice told him to carry it home and worship it. Soon after, the goddess Niladevi came to his hermitage as a tiny girl, sitting under a vanji tree. He named her Vanjulavalli and raised her as his own daughter. In the meantime, Vishnu was searching for her, riding on his eagle Garuda. When Garuda saw her at the hermitage, Vishnu came down and asked for her hand. The sage was glad to agree, but on one condition: that his daughter be honoured first. Vishnu accepted. That is why, at Nachiyar Koil, the goddess comes first in worship, and the lord follows. Devotees come here to ask for good weddings and for peace in the family.
வஞ்சிமரத்தடிக் குழந்தை
மேதாவி முனிவர் ஆற்றில் நீராடிக் கொண்டிருந்தபோது ஒன்றோடொன்று பிணைந்த இரு திருமேனிகளைக் கண்டார்; வீட்டுக்குக் கொண்டு சென்று வழிபடும்படி ஒரு குரல் சொன்னது. சிறிது காலத்தில் திருமகளின் அம்சமான நீளாதேவி ஒரு வஞ்சி மரத்தடியில் சிறு குழந்தையாக அவர் ஆசிரமத்தில் தோன்றினாள். அவளுக்கு 'வஞ்சுளவல்லி' என்று பெயரிட்டு வளர்த்தார். இதற்கிடையில் திருமால் கருடன்மேல் அவளைத் தேடி வந்தார்; கருடன் ஆசிரமத்தில் அவளைக் கண்டான். திருமால் மேதாவியிடம் மணம் கேட்டார். முனிவர் மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் ஒப்புக்கொண்டார்; ஆனால் தன் மகளுக்கு முதல் மரியாதை வேண்டும் என்ற நிபந்தனையுடன். அதனால் நாச்சியார் கோயிலில் தாயாருக்கே முதலிடம்; பெருமாள் பின்தொடர்கிறார். நல்ல திருமணம், குடும்ப அமைதி வேண்டி மக்கள் இங்கு வருகின்றனர்.
Historyவரலாறு
The temple is believed to have been built by the Chola king Kochengat Cholan, who is said to have built about seventy Shiva temples. This is the only Vishnu temple he built. Thirumangai Azhwar loved this place. The sources describe about a hundred of his verses in its praise and say he is believed to have been initiated into Vaishnavism here. The temple's tradition is said to have first followed the Vaikhanasa way of worship and to have changed to Pancharatra after Ramanuja.

Architectureகட்டிடக்கலை
A five-tiered gateway tower, about 23 metres high, faces east. Inside is a hall of 16 pillars called the Neenila Mutram, with the flagpole and the Garuda shrine in line with the sanctum. The central hall, the Goratha Mandapam, houses images of Ramanuja, Koorathalvar and eleven Azhwars, with Thirumangai Azhwar's shrine to the north. The Garuda here is carved in stone (Kal Garuda) and is the star of the temple's festivals.
