A devotee of Vishnu named Vedasaran had a loving wife called Kumudavalli. One day a trickster demon, a master of magic, hid her away and used his tricks to confuse everyone who tried to find her.வேதசாரன் என்ற திருமால் பக்தனுக்கு குமுதவல்லி என்ற அன்பு மனைவி இருந்தாள். ஒருநாள் மாயங்களில் வல்ல ஓர் அசுரன் அவளை மறைத்து, தேடுவோரை மாயத்தால் குழப்பினான்.

The demon was a master of magic tricks and used them to confuse everyone who tried to find her. But the lord of this place came to the rescue. He defeated the demon and, in the end, danced on the demon's head as a victorious Koothar, the dancer. He then returned Kumudavalli safely to her husband. The people of the village remember this as a story about how the lord looks after those who love him. The name of the temple village comes from 'kulam', meaning a tank, which is a central part of the temple. The lord sits here with Sridevi and Bhudevi on either side.
அசுரன் தலைமேல் ஆடியவன்

Historyவரலாறு
The Brahmanda Purana has a chapter, the Navathirupathi Mahatmeeyam, and a Sanskrit work called the Vaikunta Mahatmeeyam, a part of the Thamraparani Sthalapurana available only in palm manuscripts, also glorifies the temples. The temple is revered in the Divya Prabandham by Nammazhwar, who refers to it in his Thiruvaimozhi. It is mentioned in the 108 Tirupati Anthathi in the 18th and 19th centuries. The temple is one of the Navatirupati.

Architectureகட்டிடக்கலை
The temple has two enclosures, and an image of Vishnu facing east. All the shrines are inside rectangular granite walls pierced by a three-tiered gateway tower. The presiding deity is seated, with Sridevi and Bhudevi on either side. The temple is on the Tiruchendur to Tirunelveli route, on the bank of the Thamiraparani.
