The storyகதை
Brahma, who made all living things, once thought nobody could be more handsome than he was.எல்லா உயிர்களையும் படைத்த பிரம்மா, தன்னைவிட அழகியவர் யாரும் இல்லை என்று ஒருமுறை நினைத்தான்.
Vishnu wanted to teach him gently. Brahma was sent to live on earth, and he felt sorry for his pride. He prayed at Anbil.திருமால் அவனுக்கு மெதுவாகப் பாடம் சொல்ல விரும்பினார். பிரம்மா பூமியில் வாழ அனுப்பப்பட்டான்; தன் பெருமிதத்தை நினைத்து வருந்தி அன்பிலில் வேண்டினான்.
Vishnu appeared as a young man so beautiful that Brahma could only gaze at him. Then Vishnu showed his true form and said, "Looks do not last. The god who was more handsome than Brahma
Brahma, who made all living things, once grew proud of his own looks, because he thought that no being could be more handsome than he was. Vishnu heard this and decided to teach him gently. Brahma was sent down to live on earth as a mortal, and he was sorry for his pride. He prayed to Vishnu at a place called Anbil. Vishnu appeared before him as a young man of such beauty that Brahma could only gaze at him in wonder. He asked who the young man was, and Vishnu showed his true form. He explained kindly that looks do not last, and that what matters is a good heart. In another story from the same place, a sage named Suthaba, turned into a frog by a curse, prayed in the temple's pool until Vishnu freed him.
பிரம்மாவைவிட அழகியவர்
எல்லா உயிர்களையும் படைத்த பிரம்மா, தன்னைவிட அழகியவர் யாரும் இல்லை என்று ஒருமுறை செருக்குக் கொண்டான். இதை அறிந்த திருமால் அவனுக்குப் பணிவை மெதுவாகக் கற்பிக்க விரும்பினார். பிரம்மா பூமியில் மனிதனாகப் பிறக்கும்படி ஆனான்; தன் செருக்கை நினைத்து வருந்தி அன்பிலில் திருமாலை வணங்கினான். திருமால் ஓர் இளைஞனாக அவன் முன் தோன்றினார்; அவ்வளவு அழகு கண்டு பிரம்மா வியந்தான். 'நீங்கள் யார்?' என்று கேட்க, திருமால் தம் உண்மை வடிவைக் காட்டி, தோற்றம் நிலையற்றது; நல்ல உள்ளமே முக்கியம் என்று அன்புடன் சொன்னார். இதே தலத்தின் மற்றொரு கதையில், துர்வாசரின் சாபத்தால் தவளையான சுதபா முனிவர் கோயிலின் குளத்தில் தவம் செய்து திருமாலின் அருளால் விடுதலை பெற்றார்.
Historyவரலாறு
The temple stands on the north bank of the Kollidam river, about 25 km from Tiruchirappalli. King Sundara Chola was a devotee and gave much of the wealth from his victories to it, and copper plates found at Anbil record generous Chola gifts. His minister Anirudha Brahmarayar is believed to have come from this village. Inscriptions also mention the legend of Vishnu appearing before the sage Valmiki here.

Architectureகட்டிடக்கலை
The main entrance faces east, under a three-tiered gateway tower. The sanctum shows Sundararaja Perumal reclining on the serpent Adisesha, with Sridevi, Bhudevi and Brahma beside him. The roof over the sanctum is itself shaped like a small tower. Around it are shrines for the twelve Azhwars, Narasimha, Venugopala, Lakshmi Narasimha and Hanuman. In the front hall there is a shrine to Andal, with a standing figure and a bronze seated figure.
