The storyகதை
Long ago, Shiva was carrying an empty bowl and travelling from place to place, asking for food. But however much people gave, the bowl never filled up.வெகு காலத்துக்கு முன் சிவபெருமான் வெற்றுப் பாத்திரத்துடன் இடம் இடமாகச் சென்று உணவு கேட்டார். மக்கள் எவ்வளவு இட்டாலும் பாத்திரம் நிரம்பவே இல்லை.
At last he came to this village, where Vishnu stood as a tall kadamba tree. Vishnu asked his wife, the goddess Lakshmi, to give Shiva some food.இறுதியில் இவ்வூருக்கு வந்தார்; இங்கே திருமால் உயர்ந்த கடம்ப மரமாக நின்றார். திருமால் தம் தேவி திருமகளைச் சிவனுக்கு உணவிடச் சொன்னார்.

The bowl that Lakshmi filled
Once, says the tradition, Shiva was troubled by a curse and wandered as a beggar with an empty bowl that would not fill, no matter how many people gave to him. At last he came to a village where Vishnu stood in the form of a tall kadamba tree. Brahma had worshipped him there before, with sacred water, and a tank had formed from it. Vishnu looked kindly at Shiva and asked his consort, Lakshmi, to give the wandering beggar some alms. The moment she did, the bowl was full, and the curse lifted. Lakshmi was called Poornavalli from then on, the lady who made it full. The temple holds all three gods in one place, and its people say it shows that care and kindness can fill what no amount of searching can.
திருமகள் நிரப்பிய பிச்சைப் பாத்திரம்
மரபு சொல்கிறது: ஒருமுறை சிவபெருமான் ஒரு சாபத்தால் வருந்தி, எவ்வளவு பிச்சை இட்டாலும் நிரம்பாத வெற்றுக் கபாலத்தை ஏந்திப் பிச்சாடனராகத் திரிந்தார். இறுதியில் ஓர் ஊருக்கு வந்தார்; அங்கே திருமால் உயர்ந்த கடம்ப மரமாக நின்றிருந்தார். முன்பு பிரம்மா புனித நீரால் அங்கே வழிபட்டிருந்தார்; அந்த நீர் ஒரு குளமாகியிருந்தது. திருமால் சிவனை அன்புடன் நோக்கி, தம் தேவி திருமகளை அந்தப் பிச்சைக்காரருக்குப் பிச்சை இடச் சொன்னார். அவள் இட்ட மறுகணமே பாத்திரம் நிறைந்தது; சாபமும் நீங்கியது. அவள் 'பூர்ணவல்லி' (நிறைவித்தவள்) என்று அழைக்கப்பட்டாள். இந்தக் கோயில் மூவரையும் ஒரே இடத்தில் கொண்டுள்ளது. தேடிக் கிடைக்காததைக் கருணையும் அன்பும் நிரப்பும் என்று இங்குள்ளோர் சொல்வர்.
Historyவரலாறு
The temple is believed to have been built by the Chola kings in the late 8th century, and later rulers, including the Vijayanagara kings and the Madurai Nayaks, made additions. A local legend credits Janaka, the father of Sita, with building it. In 1751, during the war between the British and the French, soldiers of both armies used the temple, though it was not damaged. Thirumangai Azhwar is believed to have stayed here for a time while building the walls around the Srirangam temple.

Architectureகட்டிடக்கலை
A granite wall encloses the shrines, and the temple tank, the Kadamba Theertham, stands outside the main gateway. The shrines of Vishnu as Purushothaman, Brahma and Shiva as Bhikshandar share the compound. The temple is known for its Saptaguru, seven teachers worshipped together: Bhikshandar, Brahma, Soundarya Parvati, Brihaspati, Vishnu as Varadaraja, Murugan and Shukra.
