Arjuna, the great archer, built this temple after the war to make amends for a wrong deed that weighed on his heart. He chose the bank of the river Pamba and installed an image of Krishna as Parthasarathi, the charioteer of Partha. Every year in the month of Meenam, the lord is taken on the Garuda mount in a grand procession to the river bank, where an image of a goddess from a nearby temple is brought to meet him. Visitors also take part in the old custom of thulabharam, where a devotee is weighed against fruit, grain or other offerings, which are then donated to the temple. The stories of this temple are about repentance and gift-giving, told in the quiet of the riverside.

Historyவரலாறு
The Aranmula Parthasarathy temple is one of five ancient shrines in the Chengannur area connected with the Mahabharata. Legend says Arjuna built it to atone for a grievous act. Nammazhwar sang one hymn on this temple, and Thirumangai Azhwar sang eleven. Brahma is believed to have worshipped Vishnu here.

Architectureகட்டிடக்கலை
The temple is built in the Kerala style on an elevated platform reached by a flight of 20 steps. It has a two-storey gateway tower with wooden lattices covering the Kottupura, a hall where drums are beaten during festivals. A rectangular wall encloses the shrines, and a metal-plated flagpost and a light post stand in line with the sanctum. A Vanni tree in the temple is believed to have medicinal value, and its fruits are weighed in the thulabharam and also used for curing illnesses.
