The storyகதை
After their great war, the five Pandava brothers placed their grandson Parikshit on the throne and went on a pilgrimage. Five brothers, five temples on a river
After the great war, the Pandava brothers placed their grandson Parikshit on the throne of Hastinapura and set off on a pilgrimage. When they reached the banks of the river Pamba in Kerala, each brother is said to have set up an image of Krishna as the guardian of his own prayers. Yudhishthira set up the Thrichittatt temple, Bhima the Puliyur temple, Arjuna the Aranmula temple, Nakula the Thiruvanvandoor temple and Sahadeva the Thrikodithanam temple. In this way, the story says, five ancient temples came to stand along the river, each linked to one of the brothers. At Thrikodithanam, the lord is called Athbhuta Narayana, the wonderful Narayana, and visitors can still see the old folk dance, the Kutakkuttu, performed with umbrellas.

Historyவரலாறு
The temple is one of five ancient shrines around Chengannur, linked to the Mahabharata. A king of the Surya dynasty, Rukmangatha, is also associated with the place. The temple is under the Travancore Devaswom Board, and Nammazhwar sang of it.

Architectureகட்டிடக்கலை
The presiding deity, Athbhuta Narayanan (Amrutha Narayanan), stands facing east. His consort is Karpagavalli. The temple is built in the Kerala style, with a two-storey gateway tower whose upper storey has wooden lattices covering the Kottupura, the hall of drum beating during festivals. A rectangular wall, the kshetra-madilluka, encloses the shrines, and a metal-plated flagpost and a light post stand in line with the sanctum.
