Historyவரலாறு
The earliest references to the temple are in the verses of Nammazhwar, around 800. Stone inscriptions date it to the Second Chera Empire (800 to 1102). Thirumangai Azhwar has also mentioned Thirupuliyur in his Siriya Thirumadal. The temple is under the Travancore Devaswom Board. According to legend, it was built by Bhima, one of the Pandavas.

The temple is about 90 km from Ernakulam, and less than 12 km from Nedumbassery airport. It is built in the Kerala style, with a plain exterior and a sloping roof, set within a rectangular boundary wall. The nearest railway stations are Aluva and Angamaly.
