The story
The boar who married every day
A demon named Hiranyaksha once took the earth, who is the goddess Bhudevi, and hid her at the bottom of the cosmic ocean. The gods went to Vishnu, who took the form of a mighty boar, Varaha. Varaha dived into the ocean, fought the demon for a thousand years, and finally brought the earth up on his tusks and set her back in her place. Bhudevi fell in love with him. Meanwhile, the sage Kalava had wished that Vishnu would marry his three hundred and sixty daughters, and the goddess Lakshmi took three hundred and sixty forms to marry the lord, one each day for a whole year. Because of this, the lord is called Nithyakalyana Perumal, the lord who is married every day. The reclining Ranganatha is said to have come to the first wedding, and stayed when he saw how often they were held.
