Days, Months and Seasons: Class 1 Study Guide
A calendar shows us the days, weeks and months. The weather changes through the year.
A week has seven days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. A year has twelve months, from January to December. A calendar shows all of them, and we can use it to find today's date, a birthday or a holiday.
Seasons are parts of the year with similar weather. In much of India we notice a hot summer, a wet monsoon or rainy season, and a cooler winter. The weather can be different in different parts of the country, so a place in the mountains may be cold when another place is warm.

Seasons and what we do
In summer we wear light clothes and drink plenty of water. In the monsoon we carry an umbrella or raincoat and watch the puddles. In winter we wear sweaters and enjoy warm food. Talk with your child about what the weather is like where you live and which months it is at its hottest, wettest and coolest.

Special days on the calendar
Some days are marked on the calendar every year. We celebrate Republic Day on 26 January, Independence Day on 15 August and Gandhi Jayanti on 2 October. Find these three dates on a calendar together, and add the child's own birthday.
Worked examples and common mistakes
Example: Which day comes after Tuesday? Wednesday. Example: Which month comes before July? June. Common mistakes: mixing up the order of the months and saying that every place has the same weather at the same time. Say the order aloud and point on the calendar.
