Using this page
Add up Indian coins (₹1, ₹2, ₹5, ₹10 and ₹20) and ₹10, ₹20, ₹50, ₹100, ₹200 and ₹500 notes when notes are switched on. Children in India meet rupees in Class 1 and add and subtract amounts in Classes 2 and 3. The sheets use whole rupees, which keeps the sums suitable for Class 1 to Class 3, and the key shows each total with the ₹ sign.
Tips
- Use real coins alongside the sheet when you can.
- Count from the biggest coin or note down to the smallest.
- Play shop at home: put prices on a few items and take turns giving change.
- Talk about how money is written: dollars and cents, or pounds and pence.
Worked example
₹10, ₹5, ₹2, ₹1. Start with the biggest: ₹10. Add ₹5 to make ₹15, then ₹2 to make ₹17 and ₹1 to make ₹18. The total is ₹18.
Common mistakes
Counting the number of coins instead of their values. Three coins are not always ₹3.
Writing the sign after the number. In India the ₹ sign is written first, as in ₹18.
How to use this generator
Choose the options above the sheet: the number of questions and the settings for this kind of worksheet. Every change makes a new sheet straight away, and New worksheet gives a different set of questions with the same settings.
Each sheet has a worksheet number printed at the top. Type the same number later, or keep the page link, to print exactly the same questions and answer key again. Leave Answer key page ticked to print the answers on a second page, then press Print. Every printed page carries the makekite logo and web address.
Common questions
Do these sheets use paise?
No. Paise coins are hardly used now, so the sheets use whole rupees only. Class 3 pupils who need paise can practise on the giving change sheets.
Are the coins real pictures?
No. They are simple labelled circles and rectangles, so children read the value rather than learn the design, and the sheets print clearly in black and white.
Can I print the same worksheet again?
Yes. Note the worksheet number printed at the top, or keep the link in your browser's address bar, which ends with that number. Entering it later gives the same questions and answers.
Is it free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, and nothing you choose is sent anywhere: the sheets are made in your browser.
