Meaning: Like water birds that leave a dried pond, those who come only when you have plenty are not true kin. Real relatives are like the lilies that stay with the pond in every season.
The Dry Pond
When Jamal's father lost his job, many of the people who used to visit stopped coming. But Aunt Rani brought food every week, and a school friend, Tariq, kept sitting with Jamal at lunch. Jamal's mother said that these are the real lilies of the pond. When things improved, Jamal never forgot who had stayed by his side.

The Small Pot at the Sea
Neha took a small cup to the beach to carry some sea water home. Her brother took a bucket. They both scooped from the same sea, but each carried back a different amount. Her mother said that the sea is generous to everyone, and the amount we take depends on what we bring. Neha decided to bring more curiosity next time.
