Nambaduvan was a humble singer who loved Vishnu. In those times his family was not allowed into the temple, so he stood outside and sang his songs to the lord.நம்பாடுவான் திருமாலை நேசித்த எளிய பாடகர். அக்காலத்தில் அவர் குடும்பம் கோயிலுக்குள் செல்ல அனுமதிக்கப்படவில்லை; வெளியில் நின்று இறைவனுக்குப் பாடினார்.
One day on his way, a fierce being stopped him. Nambaduvan was not afraid. He asked to go and sing his song first, and promised to come back.ஒருநாள் வழியில் ஓர் அச்சமூட்டும் உருவம் அவரைத் தடுத்தது. நம்பாடுவான் அஞ்சவில்லை; முதலில் போய் பாடி வந்து விடுவதாக வாக்களித்தார்.
He sang with all his heart and then returned, just as he had promised. His honesty so moved the being that it was freed from its curse. The singer who kept his promise
Nambaduvan was a humble singer who loved Vishnu. Because he was born in a family that was not allowed into the temple in those times, he stood outside and sang his songs to the lord. One day, on his way to the temple, a fierce demon stopped him, saying he would eat him. Nambaduvan was not afraid. He asked the demon to let him go to the temple, sing his song to the lord, and then return. He swore that he would come back. The demon, amazed, let him go. Nambaduvan sang with all his heart and then, as promised, returned to the demon, ready to be eaten. His honesty so moved the demon that it was released from its curse. The song is remembered in the Kaisika Ekadashi festival.
வாக்கைக் காத்த பாடகன்
நம்பாடுவான் திருமாலை நேசித்த எளிய பாடகன். அக்காலத்தில் கோயிலுக்குள் செல்ல அனுமதி இல்லாத குடும்பத்தில் பிறந்ததால், வெளியே நின்று இறைவனுக்குத் தன் பாடல்களைப் பாடினான். ஒருநாள் கோயிலுக்குச் செல்லும் வழியில் கொடிய அசுரன் ஒருவன் அவனைத் தடுத்து, உன்னை உண்பேன் என்றான். நம்பாடுவான் அஞ்சவில்லை. கோயிலுக்குச் சென்று இறைவனுக்குத் தன் பாடலைப் பாடிவிட்டுத் திரும்பி வர அனுமதி கேட்டான்; திரும்பி வருவதாக உறுதி கூறினான். வியந்த அசுரன் அவனை விடுவித்தான். நம்பாடுவான் முழு மனத்துடன் பாடிவிட்டு, சொன்னபடி உண்ணப்படத் தயாராக அசுரனிடம் திரும்பினான். அவனது நேர்மை அசுரனை மிகவும் நெகிழச் செய்தது; அசுரன் தன் சாபத்திலிருந்து விடுபட்டான். இந்தப் பாடல் கைசிக ஏகாதசித் திருவிழாவில் நினைவுகூரப்படுகிறது.
Historyவரலாறு
The temple has inscriptions from the 10th century Chola period, recording gifts of sheep, and from the 14th century, when Sundara Pandya II gave 25 cows for the perpetual lighting of ghee lamps. The Nayak period in the 15th century added many pillared halls, and an inscription dated 1059 records the digging of a channel with dams. The temple is mentioned in the 108 Tirupathi Anthathi. Thirumangai Azhwar is believed to have spent his last days here and attained moksha, which is why the place is called Dakshina Vaikuntam.

The temple is 45 km from Tirunelveli and 11 km from Nanguneri, and occupies about 7.5 hectares. It has a flat entrance tower and a five-tiered gateway tower, and five enclosures, with the shrines in the first two. There are many halls with sculpted pillars from the Nayak period. A festival hall in the second enclosure faces south.
