A demon named Kesi once troubled the world, and the lord defeated him here. The demon's wife prayed to the great rivers to flood the place, but her plan did not work, and in the end she gave up.கேசி என்ற அசுரன் உலகைத் துன்புறுத்தினான்; இறைவன் அவனை இங்கு வென்றார். அசுரனின் மனைவி ஆறுகளை வேண்டி வெள்ளம் வரச் செய்ய முயன்றாள்; அது பலிக்கவில்லை; இறுதியில் சரணடைந்தாள்.
The rivers that had come to this place flowed in a circle around the temple. That gave it the name Thiruvattaru, the sacred circle of rivers.இங்கு வந்த ஆறுகள் கோயிலைச் சுற்றி வட்டமாக ஓடின; அதனால் 'திருவட்டாறு' (புனித ஆற்று வட்டம்) என்ற பெயர்.
The lord is called Adikesava, meaning the foremost friend. The rivers that formed a circle
A demon named Kesi once troubled the world, and the lord defeated him here. The demon's wife was furious. She prayed to the great rivers Ganga and Thamirabarani and asked them to flood the place and destroy the lord. But the plan did not work. In the end, the demon's wife gave up and surrendered to the lord. The rivers, which had come to the place and flowed in a circle around the temple, gave it the name Thiruvattaru, the sacred circle of rivers. The lord is called Adikesava, meaning the foremost friend. The temple is also said to be the place where the ruler of Travancore, before the Battle of Colachel in 1741, offered coins and silk at the lord's feet and prayed for victory.
வட்டமாகச் சுழன்ற ஆறுகள்
கேசி என்ற அசுரன் ஒருமுறை உலகைத் துன்புறுத்தினான்; இறைவன் அவனை இங்கே வென்றார். அசுரனின் மனைவி கடும் சினம் கொண்டாள். கங்கை, தாமிரபரணி ஆகிய பெரிய ஆறுகளை வேண்டி, இவ்விடத்தை வெள்ளத்தால் மூழ்கடித்து இறைவனை அழிக்குமாறு கேட்டாள். ஆனால் அந்தத் திட்டம் பலிக்கவில்லை. இறுதியில் அசுரனின் மனைவி தோல்வியை ஏற்று இறைவனிடம் சரணடைந்தாள். இங்கே வந்து கோயிலைச் சுற்றி வட்டமாக ஓடிய ஆறுகள் இவ்விடத்துக்குத் திருவட்டாறு, அதாவது ஆறுகளின் புனித வட்டம், என்ற பெயரைத் தந்தன. இறைவன் ஆதிகேசவன் எனப்படுகிறார்; அதன் பொருள் முதன்மையான நண்பன். 1741-ல் குளச்சல் போருக்கு முன், திருவிதாங்கூர் ஆட்சியாளர் இறைவன் திருவடிகளில் காசுகளையும் பட்டையும் படைத்து வெற்றிக்காக வேண்டிய இடமும் இதுவே என்று கூறப்படுகிறது.
Historyவரலாறு
The temple was the place where Anizham Tirunal Marthanda Varma, the ruler of Travancore, offered 908 panams, a yataghan and silk before going to the Battle of Colachel on 10 June 1741. Nammazhwar sang eleven verses on Adikesava in his sixth Thiruvaimozhi decad. The pujas are done in the same way as at the Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple in Thiruvananthapuram.

Architectureகட்டிடக்கலை
The temple's architecture is a fusion of Dravidian and Kerala styles, with wooden pillars, doors and roofs. It is surrounded by a thirty-foot fort wall, and the outer corridor stands on 224 stone pillars. The halls in front include sculptures and artworks depicting scenes from the Ramayana and Hindu mythology. The lord reclines on his serpent couch and has to be viewed through three doors. Lord Shiva is near Adikesava Perumal inside the sanctum.
