When Rama was living in the forest, his younger brother Bharata came from the kingdom to ask him to return and take the throne. Lakshmana, who was with Rama, saw a great army approaching and was suspicious. He thought Bharata had come to do harm, and he prepared to fight. But Bharata's heart was pure, and very soon his innocence was clear. Lakshmana was ashamed of his suspicion, and the brothers embraced. Then they worshipped together at this place. The name Thirumoozhikkalam is said to come from words meaning the place where sweet words were spoken. It is also remembered as the place where the sage Harita received sacred advice from Vishnu, called Thirumozhi, meaning sacred words.

Historyவரலாறு
The legend goes back to the Ramayana, and to the sage Hareetha, who meditated on the bank of the Poorna (Chalakudy) river. Vishnu is said to have appeared to him at the beginning of the Kali Yuga and offered advice, which was called Thiru Mozhi, 'sacred words', giving the place its name. Another belief says that at the end of the Dvapara Yuga, four idols of Rama, Bharata, Lakshmana and Shatrughna worshipped by Krishna were washed into the sea at Dwaraka, found by fishermen near Thriprayar, and later installed in four temples. The temple is administered by the Travancore Devaswom Board. Nammazhwar and Thirumangai Azhwar sang of it.

Architectureகட்டிடக்கலை
The temple is about 25 km from Ernakulam and is built in Kerala style, with no gateway tower and an arch from the main road. A rectangular wall called the kshetra-madilluka, pierced by gateways, encloses all the shrines. A metal-plated flagpost stands in line with the temple tower leading to the sanctum, and the outer pavilion is the Chuttuambalam. The central shrine and its hall are in a rectangular nalambalam with pillared halls.
