King Mahabali was a kind and generous ruler, loved by his people. One day a small boy with a palm-leaf umbrella came to his gate and asked for three paces of land.மகாபலி அன்பும் கொடையும் உள்ள மன்னன்; மக்களால் நேசிக்கப்பட்டவன். ஒருநாள் பனை ஓலைக் குடையுடன் ஒரு சிறுவன் அவன் வாசலுக்கு வந்து மூன்றடி நிலம் கேட்டான்.
The king agreed. At once the boy grew and grew, covering the earth with one step and the sky with the second. For the third, there was nowhere left.மன்னன் ஒப்புக்கொண்டான். சிறுவன் வளர்ந்து ஓர் அடியில் பூமியையும் இரண்டாவதில் வானத்தையும் அளந்தான். மூன்றாவதற்கு இடமே இல்லை.
The king bowed his head. Vamana, who was really Vishnu, placed his foot gently there, but promised that Mahabali could visit his people once every year. The generous king and the small boy
King Mahabali was a kind and generous ruler, loved by his people. One day a small Brahmin boy carrying a palm-leaf umbrella came to his gate and asked for three paces of land. The king's teacher warned him that this was no ordinary boy, but Mahabali was a man of his word. He agreed. At once the little boy grew and grew until he covered the earth with one step and the sky with the second. For the third, there was nowhere left to put his foot. The king bowed his head and offered it. Vamana, who was really Vishnu, placed his foot gently on the king's head, and sent him down to the netherworld. But he promised that Mahabali could visit his people once every year. In Kerala, that annual return is celebrated as Onam.
வள்ளல் மன்னனும் சிறுவனும்

Historyவரலாறு
The temple is traditionally said to have been established by Parashurama. It holds the earliest recorded mention of the celebration of Onam, in an inscription dated 861. Thrikkakara is considered the abode of King Mahabali, and the temple is the site at which he is said to have been sent to the netherworld. The temple is under the Travancore Devaswom Board.

Architectureகட்டிடக்கலை
The temple complex stands in a large enclosed area. The main sanctum is dedicated to Vamana, whose image shows him about to place his foot on the demon king Mahabali. Sub-deities include Bhagavati, Sasthavu, Gopalakrishna, Naga, Brahmarakshasa and Yakshi, and the shrines of Brahmarakshasa and a banyan-tree deity are in the outer complex.
