Siva Tells the Truth
Siva had broken his friend's kite, but when asked, he said it was the wind. His heart felt heavy all evening. The next morning he went to his friend and confessed. His friend was upset, but he thanked Siva for telling the truth. They mended the kite together, and their friendship grew stronger.

Paati's Oil Bath
Every Saturday, Paati warmed sesame oil and rubbed it gently on the children's heads. They grumbled at first, because it was messy. But afterwards they felt cool, fresh and calm. Their cousins in the city often had colds, but the village children rarely did. Paati smiled and said that old habits often hold a little wisdom.

Mani was a bus conductor, and he greeted every passenger with a smile and a kind word. Even when the bus was packed and hot, he said please and thank you. People began to wait for his bus rather than the earlier one. Mani said that a kind word costs nothing, but it can carry a whole bus full of tired people.

His family ate, studied and slept comfortably, and his money was left to help others. When the friend visited, he sighed and said that he wished he had built smaller.

Velan listened when the old farmers said that the first rains were coming. While others waited, he ploughed and sowed on time. His seeds sprouted early, and his field was green when the others were only starting. At harvest, Velan had the best crop in the village. He learned that the right deed at the right time is half the work.

A farmer quietly moved the boundary stone a little into his neighbour's field. For a while nobody noticed. But he could not sleep, because he knew what he had done. One night he moved the stone back. In the morning, he told his neighbour the truth. The neighbour forgave him, and they shared a cup of tea.

The Temple Steps
Some boys dared Ilango to scribble on the temple steps. He felt a tug in his heart, because he knew it was wrong. He said no, even though they teased him. Later, the headmaster heard how he had stood firm and praised him in front of the whole school. Ilango felt proud that he had listened to his own good sense.

The Snake in the Grass
Two boys found a snake in the grass. One wanted to poke it with a stick. The other said, leave it alone, it is dangerous. The first boy backed away and called a grown-up. A man from the village came and moved the snake safely to the forest. The boys were glad they had not played with danger.
புல்லில் இருந்த பாம்பு

Grandmother had stuffed the pillows with the soft cotton of the silk-cotton tree. When tired travellers came to the village, she offered them her pillows. They slept so well that they woke up refreshed. They left smiling, and said that a good night's rest is the best gift for a long road.

The Honest Trader
A trader promised a customer that his cloth was the finest silk, though he knew it was only cotton. The customer saw through it and went away. The trader's neighbour, who spoke only honestly, gained the customer instead. The first trader learned that a clever lie loses more than it earns.

Chitra and her friends had just cleaned the school wall when someone threw mud on it for fun. Chitra could have joined in, but she thought, that would make our school ugly. She stopped her friends and helped wash it again. Her teacher smiled and said that beautiful deeds are the best decoration.

Hari loved his bed, and he often slept until the sun was high. His friends went to the river early, fished and played. One day, Hari got up with the first bird and joined them. He saw the sunrise on the water for the first time. He decided that mornings were too lovely to miss.
