Using this page
Turn numbers in lakhs and crores into figures, such as 3 crore 42 lakh 5 thousand 400 = 3,42,05,400, or write figures in words. Choose six to nine digits. The hundreds are written last, so every number ends in two zeros, which keeps the words short and the place values clear. These sheets suit Class 4 and Class 5 pupils learning the Indian system.
Tips
- Show the working, even when the answer seems obvious; it makes mistakes easy to spot.
- Check each answer: put it back into an equation, or estimate before working out.
- Start with the easier setting and move up once most answers are right.
- Mix one older sheet into each week so earlier skills stay fresh.
Worked example
3,42,05,400. Read from the left: 3 crore, 42 lakh, 05 thousand (written 5 thousand), and 400. So it is 3 crore 42 lakh 5 thousand 400. Going back, put 3 in the crore place, 42 in the lakh places, 05 in the thousands and 400 at the end.
Common mistakes
Leaving out a zero that holds a place, writing 3,42,5,400 instead of 3,42,05,400.
Mixing up lakh and crore. 1 crore is 100 lakh, so 3 crore is 300 lakh.
