The voices we use, in order of preference: Microsoft Valluvar (Windows and the Edge browser), Google Tamil (Android and Chrome) and Apple's built-in Tamil voice (iPhone, iPad and Mac). All three are free to use on your device. நாங்கள் பயன்படுத்தும் குரல்கள்: மைக்ரோசாஃப்ட் வள்ளுவர் (Windows, Edge), கூகிள் தமிழ் (Android, Chrome), ஆப்பிளின் உள்ளமைந்த தமிழ்க் குரல் (iPhone, iPad, Mac).
- Microsoft Edge (Windows, Mac, Linux): open this page in Edge. It includes the online voices Valluvar (male) and Pallavi (female) for Tamil, with nothing to install. It needs an internet connection. Edge உலாவியில் இப்பக்கத்தைத் திறந்தால் வள்ளுவர், பல்லவி குரல்கள் இணையம் மூலம் கிடைக்கும்; எதையும் நிறுவ வேண்டாம்.
- Windows 10 and 11 (works in any browser): Settings, Time and language, Speech, Manage voices (or Add voices), search for Tamil, and install Tamil (India). Then restart your browser. Settings → Time & language → Speech → Add voices → Tamil (India) நிறுவி, உலாவியை மீண்டும் தொடங்குங்கள்.
- Android: Settings, search for text-to-speech, open Speech Services by Google, then install the Tamil voice data. Settings → Text-to-speech → Speech Services by Google → Tamil குரல் தரவை நிறுவுங்கள்.
- iPhone and iPad: Settings, Accessibility, Spoken Content, Voices, choose Tamil and download a voice. Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices → Tamil.
- Mac: System Settings, Accessibility, Spoken Content, System voice, Manage voices, then add Tamil. System Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Manage voices → Tamil.
Menu names change a little between versions. About copyright and privacy: makekite does not host, copy or send you any voice. Your own device reads the words aloud, using a voice you install from Microsoft, Google or Apple under their terms for personal use, and we record nothing. Online voices, such as those in Edge, send the text being read to the voice provider's speech service.
