👏 Syllable Clap

Hear a word, clap its beats and choose how many syllables it has – from cat to watermelon.

How to play

Listen to the word (press Hear it to repeat). Say it slowly and clap once for each beat, then tap the matching number of claps. A trick: put your hand under your chin – your chin drops once for each syllable.

⌨️ Keyboard: press 1–4 to pick an answer, or type your answer and press Enter.

What it teaches

Breaking words into syllables is a Foundation and Year 1 phonological skill. It helps children read and spell longer words in chunks (but-ter-fly) instead of letter by letter.

Levels: 1–2 beats (Short words) · 1–3 beats (Longer words) · 2–4 beats (Big words)

Free to play, with no sign-up and no ads beside the game. Best scores are saved only in this browser. All artwork and sounds are made in code by makekite.
