👀 Sight Word Pop-Up

Hear a sight word, then tap it every time it pops up – among other common words that look similar.

How to play

The target word is shown at the top and read aloud (press 🔊 to hear it again). Words pop up from the burrows – tap only the target word. After four hits, a new word is chosen. Right taps score 10, wrong taps lose 5.

⌨️ Keyboard: keys 1–9 match the nine holes (1, 2, 3 is the top row).

What it teaches

Sight words are high-frequency words that readers need to recognise instantly, many of which do not follow simple phonics rules (said, was, one). Quick recognition frees beginning readers to focus on meaning. Lists step up from Foundation to Year 2.

Levels: Starter words (the, and, said…) · Next words (they, what, there…) · Tricky words (because, through…)

Free to play, with no sign-up and no ads beside the game. Best scores are saved only in this browser. All artwork and sounds are made in code by makekite.
