In English

The young buffaloes call out, longing for their calves. At the very thought of them, milk streams from the udders, soaking the house and turning the ground to mud. You are the sister of that fortunate man. With the dew falling on our heads, we stand holding on to your gate. We sing of the Lord who, in anger, ended the king of Lanka in the south, the one who is sweet to the mind. Yet you do not open your mouth. At least now, get up. What is this great sleep? Everyone in the house has noticed it.

About this verse

The verse paints a picture of the cowherd village at dawn: milk running from the buffaloes, dew falling, and the girls waiting at a door. The story it remembers is the end of the king of Lanka.
