⏳ Past, Present or Future?

Sort sentences by tense: did it happen in the past, is it happening now, or will it happen in the future?

How to play

Find the verb (the doing word) in each sentence. Verbs ending in -ed, or words like went and caught, often show the past. Is, am, are and -ing can show the present. Will and going to show the future. Tap or drag each sentence into its box.

⌨️ Keyboard: press the number on a box to sort the card into it.

What it teaches

Using verb tense consistently is a focus of writing in Years 2–6. Sorting sentences trains students to spot the verb and its helping words, which helps them keep their own stories in one tense.

Levels: Easy (Regular verbs) · Medium (Irregular verbs) · Hard (Longer sentences)
