🧊 States of Matter Sorter
Sort everyday materials into solids, liquids and gases – then sort changes of state like melting and condensing.
How to play
Think about how the material behaves at room temperature. Solids keep their own shape, liquids flow and take the shape of their container, and gases spread out to fill any space. On the hard level, sort what is happening instead.
⌨️ Keyboard: press the number on a box to sort the card into it.
What it teaches
Solids, liquids and gases and how they change with heating and cooling are taught in Years 4 and 5 Science, with particle explanations in Year 8. Tricky items like sand (a solid made of tiny grains) test whether students use properties, not appearance.
Levels: Easy (Everyday things) · Medium (Trickier materials) · Changes (Melting, freezing, evaporating, condensing)
