Australian income tax and take-home pay calculator

Income tax, Medicare levy and take-home pay per year, month, fortnight and week for Australian residents.

An estimate for Australian tax residents. It leaves out the low income tax offset, the Medicare levy reduction for low incomes, the Medicare levy surcharge, HELP repayments and deductions. Check the ATO tax calculators before you rely on it.

How this calculator works

Tax is worked out in slices. For 2026-27 you pay nothing on the first $18,200, 15% on $18,201 to $45,000, 30% on $45,001 to $135,000, 37% on $135,001 to $190,000 and 45% above that. For 2025-26 the 15% slice is 16%. The Medicare levy is 2% of taxable income.

Worked example: $90,000 in 2026-27. The first slice costs $26,800 × 15% = $4,020. The next $45,000 × 30% = $13,500. Income tax is $17,520 and Medicare is $1,800, so take-home pay is $70,680 a year, or about $2,718 a fortnight. Your average rate is 21.5%, but the rate on your next dollar is 32%.
