Age Pension calculator
Estimate your fortnightly Age Pension under the income and assets tests, with deeming, the Work Bonus, homeowner and couple rates from 20 September 2026.
An estimate only, using the normal rates, income test, assets test, deeming rates and Work Bonus published by Services Australia from 20 September 2026. It leaves out Rent Assistance, transitional rates, couples separated by illness, couples where only one partner is of Age Pension age, any Work Bonus balance carried over, and income or assets outside Australia. Rates change every 20 March and 20 September. Check with Services Australia before you rely on it. This is not financial advice.
How this calculator works
Services Australia works out the pension twice, once under the income test and once under the assets test, and pays the lower amount. Income includes deemed income from financial assets: 1.75% a year on the first $66,800 (single) or $110,600 (couple), and 3.75% above that, whatever the assets really earn. The Work Bonus means the first $300 a fortnight of each person's pay from work is not counted. Above the free area ($226 a fortnight single, $396 combined for a couple), the pension falls by 50 cents for each dollar, which for a couple is 25 cents each. Above the assets limit ($333,000 for a single homeowner, $499,000 for a homeowner couple, more for non-homeowners) it falls by $3 a fortnight for each $1,000, which is how the published cut-off points are reached. Your home is not counted as an asset.
Worked example: a single homeowner with $150,000 in the bank and shares and $30,000 of other assets has deemed income of about $164.96 a fortnight, which is under the $226 free area, so the income test allows the full rate. Assets of $180,000 are under the $333,000 limit too, so the pension is the full $1,237.70 a fortnight, about $32,180 a year. With $500,000 of financial assets instead, deemed income is about $669.77 a fortnight and the income test gives about $1,015.82, while assets of $530,000 give about $646.70 under the assets test, so the assets test sets the rate at about $646.70 a fortnight.

Tips
- Count super in financial assets once you reach Age Pension age, which is 67.
- Use market values for cars, contents and other property, not what you paid.
- Gifting more than the allowed amounts still counts as your asset for five years, so ask Services Australia before giving large amounts away.
How the two tests work
Services Australia works out your pension under the income test and under the assets test and pays the lower of the two. Under the income test, income up to the free area does not reduce the pension, and each dollar above it reduces the pension by 50 cents (25 cents each for a couple). Income includes deemed income from financial assets, so a term deposit is counted at the deeming rate, not the interest it really pays. Under the assets test, assets up to the limit do not reduce the pension, and each $1,000 above it reduces the fortnightly pension by $3.
The figures in this calculator are the normal rates from 20 September 2026: up to $1,237.70 a fortnight for a single person and $1,866.00 for a couple, including the pension and energy supplements.
What is not included
The calculator does not cover Rent Assistance, which can add to the pension for renters, the transitional rate for people who have been on a part pension since 2009, couples separated by illness, or couples where only one partner is of Age Pension age. Residence rules apply too: most people need at least 10 years of Australian residence. Check your situation with Services Australia or its Financial Information Service, which is free.
Common questions
Does my home count as an asset?
No. Your principal home is not counted under the assets test, but homeowners have a lower assets limit than non-homeowners.
