In English
Praise to you, the one who is the first thing and the whole wealth of my life! Dawn has broken. We bring flowers fit for your flower feet and stand before your holy face, from which grace blossoms for us. With a beautiful smile, we worship your holy feet. Cool fields all around, where lotuses open their petals in the mud, and in the midst of them, at Thiruperunthurai, lives Shiva. You who fly the banner of the bull, who own me as your own, our Lord, please rise from your bed.
About this verse
Thirupalliyezhuchi is the song that wakes the Lord at dawn, in the way a king is woken in his palace. The first verse sets the scene at Thiruperunthurai, where lotuses bloom in the mud and the devotees arrive with flowers.
