Keeping a reading log with kids
A reading log makes progress visible. Write the title, author, the date started and finished, and a star rating. Children enjoy seeing the list grow, and it helps them remember what they liked.
Read together every day, even for ten minutes. Take turns reading pages, talk about what might happen next, and let your child choose some books, including comics, picture books and non-fiction.
Keep it relaxed. A log should encourage reading, not turn it into a chore. Celebrate milestones such as the first ten books, and look back over the list to find authors to try next.
