How to organise and label cords and power cables

Behind every entertainment unit, home office desk, and router lies an intimidating bird's nest of identical black power cables. Unplugging the wrong cord can accidentally disconnect your modem during an important video call or reboot your home network.

Label both ends of every cable—at the device end and at the power board plug end. Using self-adhesive or taped wrap-around labels identifying 'Monitor 1', 'Laptop Charger', 'TV Soundbar', and 'Router' takes ten minutes and makes troubleshooting instant.

Bundle excess cable lengths neatly using reusable hook-and-loop velcro ties rather than plastic zip ties. Velcro ties make it effortless to swap devices or reposition equipment without reaching for scissors.
