How to create a family emergency grab binder
During rapid emergency evacuations—such as bushfires, sudden flooding, or residential fires—you have only minutes to grab your family, pets, and most critical records. Searching through desk drawers for birth certificates or insurance policy numbers in an emergency is impossible.
Build a dedicated waterproof 'Grab Binder' stored in a designated, easily accessible location. Include certified copies of passports, driver licences, birth and marriage certificates, house and contents insurance schedules, wills, and mortgage titles.
Add an offline printout of essential emergency contacts, medical prescriptions, and doctor contact numbers, because mobile networks and phone batteries can fail during natural disasters. Review and update the binder annually during smoke alarm battery checks.
