Net to gross pay calculator
Work backwards from the take-home pay you want to the salary before tax you would need.
An estimate for Australian residents. It uses the same rules and limits as the gross to net pay calculator, so check the ATO before relying on it.
How this calculator works
There is no neat formula for going backwards through tax brackets, so the calculator tries salaries between $0 and $2 million, halving the gap each time, until the take-home pay matches your target.
Worked example: to take home $70,000 a year in 2026-27 you need a salary of about $89,000. Income tax is $4,020 + 30% × ($89,000 − $45,000) = $17,220, the Medicare levy is $1,780, and $89,000 − $17,220 − $1,780 = $70,000. Add 12% employer super and the package is about $99,680.
