UK student loan repayment calculator

How much you repay each month and each year on a UK student loan, for Plan 1, 2, 4, 5 or a postgraduate loan, based on your income.

A guide only. It uses the yearly thresholds GOV.UK lists, while employers apply weekly or monthly ones, so each month's deduction can differ. It does not include interest on the loan, which does not change what you repay each year. Check GOV.UK for current thresholds.

How this calculator works

You repay 9% of your income over the threshold for your plan (£26,900 for Plan 1, £29,385 for Plan 2, £33,795 for Plan 4 and £25,000 for Plan 5), and 6% of income over £21,000 for a postgraduate loan. How much you owe does not change what you repay each year.

Worked example: on £36,000 with a Plan 2 loan, the repayment is 9% × (£36,000 − £29,385) = 9% × £6,615 = £595.35 a year, about £49.61 a month. With a postgraduate loan as well, another 6% × £15,000 = £900 a year is repaid.
