Unit price comparison calculator

Compare two pack sizes and see which is cheaper per 100 g, per 100 ml or per item.

Bigger isn't always cheaper, and specials can flip the answer. A bargain you throw away isn't a bargain.

How this calculator works

Unit price = price ÷ size. Australian supermarkets covered by the Unit Pricing Code must show unit prices on shelf labels, but the units they use don't always match, for example per 100 g on one label and per kg on another. This calculator puts both products on the same basis.

Worked example: 500 g for $4.50 is $0.90 per 100 g, and 1 kg for $7.80 is $0.78 per 100 g, so the larger pack is 13.3% cheaper per gram.
