How this calculator works
To add or subtract, a/b ± c/d = (ad ± cb) ÷ bd. To multiply, multiply straight across. To divide, flip the second fraction and multiply. The answer is then divided by the greatest common factor.
Worked example: 1/2 + 1/3 = (3 + 2) ÷ 6 = 5/6. And 3/4 ÷ 1/8 = 3/4 × 8/1 = 24/4 = 6.
