Emergency fund calculator
Work out an emergency fund target from your essential monthly costs, and how long it will take to save.
Count only essentials, not dining out or subscriptions. Not financial advice.
How this calculator works
Target = essential monthly costs × months of cover. Three to six months is the range most often suggested, but the right number depends on how secure your income is.
Worked example: $4,150 of essentials × 3 months = $12,450. With $2,000 already saved and $150 a week going in, it takes 70 weeks.
