Download time calculator
How long a file takes to download or upload at a given internet speed.
Speeds are in megabits (Mbps) and file sizes in megabytes (MB). There are 8 bits in a byte.
How this calculator works
Time = (size in bytes × 8) ÷ speed in bits per second. Plans quote megabits, so a 100 Mbps plan moves at most 12.5 megabytes per second.
Worked example: a 50 GB game at 100 Mbps and 90% efficiency takes about 1 h 14 min. Upload speeds are usually much lower, so backups can take far longer.
